Now I'm lying for the first time on this mattress on the terrace of a beach cabin in Lagos, Portugal. Temperatures must be around 22 and 14 degrees on the beach, with a slight sea breeze.
Yesterday I already attached the mattress, which came delivered with a stylish and easy closable black sleeve with the name 'Nature Hike' largely printed on it. Protecting the folded mattress against the rain when hiking, before use.
The mattress is really lightweight, to that extent that you don't really feel wearing an extra attribute on your backpack. I attached the 56cm broad mattress below my backpack, which for me is the handiest place. Still, that width of 56cm is really the maximum to wear it there, in order not disturb pedestrians on towns or still easily pass through corridors in for example supermarkets.
Having slept for the first time on it, this width is sufficiently broad, and the uneven structure of the egg nest prevents you from sliding over the sides when sleeping.
Compared with my previous cheap isolating mattress, this is an enormous difference: the mattress feels soft and remarkably warm when laying in it, also on a rather cold night. The egg nest structure, which extends the thickness of the mattress with half egg-shaped bubbles on top and next to these also the same bubbles beneath, in a clever way to reduce the total weight of the mattress with the half! Superb design! A small drawback is that you slightly feel the uneven surface when sleeping, but I slept well and warm, without that being a problem at all.
This mattress exists in different isolation degrees, the scale of which goes from 1 to 5. I bought the 2.6 version, which grants to keep the body temperature when sleeping above 5°C. Feels very warm at the current temperatures between 12 and 15°C, even warmer than my body temperature, as if it's electrically heated.
The thickness I chose is 2,3cm, which grants softness enough, although a somewhat larger thickness would not be exaggerated, as it doesn't feel too soft now, but instead as a medium hard mattress, in which it is still comfortable to sleep.
Folding goes really fast and easy, always resulting in the same compact size, so you never have to adjust the settings on your backpack, which often is the case using a rolled mattress, rolled up always in different diameters.
Top buy, at a very accessible price of 36,39€ bought at the Asian online-shop Ali Express.
Strange that this mattress is not available at the Nature Hike webshop anymore, as it is a top product. But the price there is quite elevated, and can't really compete with the Asian giant's price setting. An honest and well-stelling European consumer price for this top product with my specifications, I would consider 50€.
